
Vacations are important:
Returning from the November-December 1997 Road Trip, I had a nice holiday season in Marin. But somehow I still needed more. So I subleased the houseboat and started getting ready to leave for six months around the world. In particular, I wanted to get to India for the Kumbla Mela festival, and to join in working on a film about Tibetan refugees.
However, fate intervened. And now I'm in the bread business.
"Judy's Breadsticks" are gourmet vegan whole wheat baguettes. My friend Lynda and her business partner Judy started the company four years ago, and now they sell to stores all over the Bay Area. The bread tastes great, and the new V.P. job I started March 2 is a grand opportunity. So India had to wait.
Just a small holiday, though, before starting work. I'd taken an introductory scuba dive three years ago in Bali and really loved it. Now was the time to take the certification course.
All flights to Cozumel were overbooked and expensive. But combining two cheap deals - to Berlin and then to Cairo - I could learn to dive at the Red Sea for less! Certainly, I'm not one to let a little terrorism get in the way of a good time...
