SF Art Gallery!

In 2008, I finished remodeling. The gallery is now the West Coast showroom for my friend Eric Ehlenberger's neon art. He's a nationally known artist who owns the Venusian Gardens gallery in New Orleans. And in his spare time, he's a doctor, too.

Built in the 1920's as an auto repair garage, the building was the ArtSpace gallery in the late 80's and early 90's. Karen Finley performed here. Survival Research Labs put on shows as well.

Here's Andy Warhol, hanging out in our kitchen.

Those folks all moved to New York. Trevor Ito and Michael Morehouse founded and inspired the Arspace Gallery in 2003, with help from a community of artists. Trevor's in New York now too, and Michael moved to Portland closer to his son. My two housemates Jeff and Jessica are totally awesome, and we are certainly enjoying a renaissance. We even have a functioning sink and dishwasher!

I'm a creative entrepreneur and finance guy, not an artist. Yet somehow I've acquired a strange passion to keep this place going. We've had amazing events and collaborations such as the Laughing Squid Unholiday Party, and Dorkbot SF. We can even webcast events such as this monthly meditation on the Earthdance Network. With Eric's work as a foundation and great ideas coming to us every week, there's a bright future ahead.

More photos of the space are available at Eric's VG West site.
